l'histoire se déroule en Asie où nous retrouvons l'aventurier Rick O'Connell venu combattre l'Empereur Han, revenu d'entre les morts. Des catacombes de la Chine ancienne jusqu'aux sommets de l'Himalaya, l'explorateur sera accompagné de son fils Alex, de sa femme Evelyn et de son beau-frère Jonathan. Cette fois, la famille au complet est chargée de contrecarrer les sombres desseins d'une momie vieille de 2000 ans prête à mettre le monde à ses pieds... Condamnés par une sorcière à passer l'éternité immobiles, l'Empereur Dragon et son armée de 10 000 guerriers sont fait prisonniers sous une vaste terre silencieuse. Lorsque le jeune Alex, victime d'une manigance, réveille malgré lui ce pouvoir éteint depuis plusieurs siècles, il fait appel à ses parents, les seuls pouvant l'aider à mettre au tapis une armée de morts-vivants... Alors que le monarque revient à la vie, les O'Connell réalisent que son désir de domination n'a fait que grandir...

L'été est là et bien là et, en cette période propice aux aventures les plus exotiques et les plus remuantes, c'est avec un très grand plaisir que nous voyons le retour des momies aux bandelettes en images de synthèse sur nos écrans. Parce qu'elles sont comme ça, les momies : mauvaises, méchantes, agressives, désireuses de dominer le monde,... En un mot, parfaites pour servir de punching-ball à Rick O'Connel (Brendan Fraser), qui aimerait faire ses fouilles en famille tranquillement, pour une fois. Et c'est là son droit mais avouons que, de notre côté, nous sommes ravis de savoir qu'il va en baver sévère à partir du 9 août prochain !
Surtout que les quelques nouvelles photos qui nous sont parvenues laissent entrevoir bien des dangers pour O'Connel et sa famille, des dangers qui prennent joliment la pose pour notre plus grand plaisir (ouh, un Sully tout blanc !) et se dévoilent même beaucoup à notre surprise, si l'on considère les deux trois clichés où apparaît la momie en personne. Momie crachant du feu, soit dit en passant, et qui maîtrise les arts martiaux comme Jet Li (drôle de coïncidence, non ?). Bon allez, Rick, au taf' !
